Tek Ura Thursday

Hi all!

Today we spent the day at Tek Ura and here's what we got up to! (also you can play "Spot the Dog"! Because he's in most pictures here...)

The whole group started the day with an English Class.

The kids were very enthusiastic, and they were absolutely brilliant! There was a welcome song that we all had to sing and then Max and Sue had to do a little dance for "Singing in the Rain"

The class also took a shine to Dashur and he got a few cuddles before we all said goodbye!

After the English Class, Sue and Mick joined the physiotherapist in a Sensory Session for severely disabled children (parents were literally carrying them in and out, they had no equipment for these kids)

This is the "clinic" room and there are lots of different pieces of equipment in here although not all is pictured in this)

During this, Becky, Max and Nick went to a local coffee shop for the Parenting Group, although the rain was very heavy today and only two mums showed up. It was still a great time full of sharing experiences with each other.

The coffee shop was mind blowing (for a mother like me!) As it had a huge play room next to the "shop" and it was separated by glass windows, it was all part of the same shop!

After some chat between the mothers and group, we went back to Tek Ura for lunch.

After lunch, the whole team split into a 3 and a 2 for home visits. Now, sue and I (Becky) went to visit a lady down the street next to the river, so I have pictures below from this street which is often discussed as the community here use Tek Ura and for groups and things.

This is a very dodgy hill with loose rubble (picture doesn't make it look like a hill!) But as you can see it leads to the river.

In this building here lives a lady who we met at the ladies Bible study evening.

This is the street, but it's really just the first half of it! You can see the homes here on the right and there are more on the left. As you can imagine, these homes get very noisy in the rain!

Little stray wet dog here looking for scrap. There are lots of flooded areas on the floor and we did get quite a soaking! But we reached this lady's house and sat down with her and her daughter-in-law. We were given a hard boiled sweet and coke and made some small talk about our families. The lady we saw had gall stones and an operation in May. She told us she was still having pain in the area of her gallbladder. She did say it did not stop her from working however. Mick, Max and Nick visited a very hospitable and happy Muslim family who gave them many pomegranates, sweets and Fanta!

On the walk back for Sue and I, we saw a few people from the community that we had seen at Tek Ura over the last few days! Friendly "hellos" were made and it was lovely knowing we had made a small connection with these people, in such little time.

After our time in the community, we said our final farewell to the team at Tek Ura - and what a team they are!

We then hitched a ride to GDQ to meet a couple who took us out for a meal, which was a wonderful way to end the day in fellowship and good company. We also discussed their time at GDQ and got more insight into some missionary work at GDQ (as they were teachers from Exeter!)

We have had a debrief this evening and in the morning we are over at GDQ to do a craft session with Grade 5 (aged 10!)

Thanks again for reading, praying and supporting us.

God Bless,

W.A.I.T
